TCP Gets Wild for Spirit Week

By Blair Willette and Amy Miller
As we all know, Tri-city students don’t have as much school spirit as Bradshaw or PHS. However, from April 12th through the 15th, students succeeded in making spirit week creative.
On Monday, April 12th, movie day, we had many inspired characters. Russell Famas was wearing a Darth Vader mask, obviously from the series Star Wars. Blair Willette was Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, complete with jingle bells and antlers. We even had Lois Lane and Clark Kent walking around our school, dressed by Bekkah Sitters and Jeremy DeRois.[more]

Senior Auction Fun and a Success Overall

By Danielle Oquist and Colten Lindauer
On April 4th, the Senior class hosted the Senior Auction in the auditorium which was once again, a success. Adriana Racine, Jeannie Wood, Rachel Underwood, and Kim Deckard put it together and it was incredible.
“Overall I think it well extremely well and we even made enough money for graduation so that was a plus.” said Mrs. Milliken “I think it was fun overall for everyone there.”
Many of the students agreed. “It was a lot of fun!” said Shaelynn McCormack, “I had a great time.” [more]

New Schedule System is a Success

By Liz Earl
Wade Kay’s schedule is unique. When he received the order of classes for the fall semester of 2010, he began planning out his classes- exactly the same as every other semester at Tri-City.
However, this time, it was a little different. Where in past years every student has been called in to the office to discuss their schedule, this year it was a little more mechanical.[more]

Tri-City Prep Takes on the AIMS and Exceeds

By Peter Cowles

On Wednesday and Thursday April 7th and 8th Tri-City Prep students will take the Math and Science AIMS.  On Wednesday the Math AIMS were taken by sophomores and also Juniors or Seniors that didn’t exceed on the AIMS. State Standards require that you retake the AIMS until you pass them.  However, Tri-City Prep asks that you take them until you exceed, which, last year everyone actually did. The reward for exceeding is worth the effort because students who exceeded get to take the day off. [more]

New President Pushes for Personal Initiative

By Rachel Underwood
On April 27th, 2010, the Tri-City Prep student body ushered into office a new executive board, electing future senior Jeremy DeRois as President, Korynne Pflueger as Vice President, Evelyn Ballard as Treasurer  and Elizabeth Earl as Secretary. We sat down with the new President of Student Council, Jeremy DeRois, and asked him a few questions. Jeremy showed great personal initiative, but he requested that the future student body step up to the plate as well. “I want everyone to show initiative without having to be told,” he said. “I want them to step up and participate on their own, instead of someone asking them to. I feel that will help make our school run smoother.” He went on further to specify that he wanted “Student Council members to show an interest in the school…[such as] showing up to Art Shows [even] if they're not in art…That's one of the biggest things I want to accomplish.”

All the Numbers Add up in Middle School Math Competition

By Danielle Oquist
On April 29, Mu Alpha Theta and Math Honors hosted the annual middle school math competition. There were over 180 middle school students here; doubling TCP’s student population. With the help of Mu Alpha Theta and Math Honors, the competition went well and many schools are already promising to come back next year.
The top three schools, Prescott Mile High Middle School, Bradshaw Mountain Middle School, and Heritage Middle School were very pleased with the way it was ran and the experience it provided for their students.
“Your kids did an awesome job! They made sure that the students had everything they needed and we all had a great time. The competition went smoothly and we all will gladly come back next year,” said Bradshaw Mountain’s Adviser..[more]

Envirothon Tradition Continues

By Mollie Muchna
On April 16th and 17th , ten students along with two teachers went to the Arizona State Envirothon. Tri-City, along with 15 other high schools in the state of Arizona sent, their top Envirothon teams to compete.  The competition took place near Saguaro Lake, Phoenix.
The Envirothon was developed 13 years ago by Dr. Summerville who was one of the chaperones for Tri-City’s trip to the Envirothon. He also was a former science teacher at Tri-City for many years. Tri-City used to participate yearly in the Envirothon but took a short break. This was the first year Mrs. Muchna took a group of students to the Envirothon.[more]

Glee Clubbers Strive, Singin’ “Don’t Stop, Believin’!”

By Sarah Cramer
Students have the ability to create a club at Tri City, but the process takes more than most students would expect. For example, Ryan Deckard, Blake Embree, Katie Stanfill, and Emily Stanfill began a Glee Club at TCP.
“We needed to write a constitution explaining our rules and regulations, meet with various teachers numerous amounts of times, and get the Glee Club approved by Tri-M. I feel like the process went slow,” says freshman Ryan Deckard.
According to Dr. Halvorson, constitutions explain how clubs will operate, the purpose of club, how the club will function financially, the criteria for membership, and how members will be selected. “You learn a lot in the process of creating a club,” she says. [more]
