New Stanford 10

The Stanford 10 is a new state issued test that all freshmen are required to take. 2010 is the first year that the Stanford 10 has been issued, previously being the terra-nova. There were 3 sections to the Stanford 10, the math section and 2 language arts sections.
Although the Stanford 10 is a required test it doesn’t affect much. Colleges don’t look into the Stanford 10 and it isn’t an indicator of which classes you should be placed in for the next school year. “We have had good scores with the Terra-Nova and I expect good scores with the Stanford 1,” says Mrs. Norris.

TCP Art Guild Movie Nights

By Tedd Mostert
Beginning in February, Art Guild has hosted movie nights in the auditorium for student enjoyment and entertainment every Wednesday during 7th period.  The admission is free and popcorn is available in bags; just like in an actual movie theater.  What sets it apart from a real movie theater is the fact that the auditorium is but a few steps away, and one can watch movies with friends without whispering to others about being quiet or being distracted by distracting lights from cell phones or electronic devices.  Another differentiating factor is that all costs help contribute to the Tri City Prep Art Guild funds for future art trips and for the school’s art supplies.[more]

Keep it Decent, Folks!

By Rachel Underwood
Finally, Arizona is entering summer and out of the haphazard winter/spring weather  that it has experienced for so long. Unfortunately, the warmer weather also brings about a drastic change in clothing:  we go from pants to shorts, sweaters to tanktops, and winter jackets to swimsuits. We would like to urge students to maintain appropriate dress that aligns with the TCP dress code. Tanktops need to remain with three-finger width straps, no mid-riff or superfluous cleavage showing. In addition, the minimum length for shorts is 6 inches from the knee to the bottom of the fabric. Remain respectful for others around you, and always remember to dress for what you want.

What Does It Really Matter?

By Jessica Holevar
Every year, juniors start their journey to college acceptance. Colleges look at many parts of a student’s academics and life. One of these is test scores, mainly the SAT.
Those three letters can instantly bring fear and stress. According to Mrs. Norris, there are some simple steps to take to help prepare to take this test, and also to lessen the stress of the experience.
The first thing is that students should take the PSAT the fall of their junior year. After this, take as many practice SAT tests as possible. Some programs will offer up to 11 but try for at least 3-4. Reading challenging literature, and expanding vocabulary, will help immensely.
But still, why does it matter? [more]

Sifting through the Mire

           By Rachel Underwood
When I began my college and scholarship searches during the summer between my Junior and Senior year, I was essentially blind in the dark. I knew practically nothing of how to find the scholarships which applied to me, and the plethora of websites flooding the internet with scholarships became a confusing maze in which I swiftly became lost. However, with the help of our amazing advisor, Mrs. Norris, and a variety of my college friends, I was eventually able to sift my way through the mire. [more]
