Soccer's Explosive Start (headline) by Blair Willette
On March 9th, TCP played Southwestern Academy in their first game of the spring soccer season. It was a home game on the TCP soccer field. TCP won with a score of 6-0.
“It was an okay way to start the season but they could’ve done better. The team started with an odd alignment but eventually found a flow later on. “Jacob Nickle said.
The final score was 6 – 0. TCP won. Two goals were shot by forward, Gavan Turner. Another two goals were shot by forward, Will and defender, Joe Levie shot one goal as well.
The best moment of the game was when goal keeper, Colton Lindauer shot a goal. As Colton drop-kicked the ball, it bounced over the other players’ heads. The Southwestern goal keeper said that he was going to get the ball, and then the ball bounced right over the goal keeper’s head and into the goal.
“That’s amazing! Shouldn’t that be worth two points because it’s a goalie shot?” Elizabeth Winters said. I think that she was referring to foosball. Still, it was only worth one point, not two.
“One of the worst feelings is sitting on the sidelines knowing you could be playing. I wish that I could play on the team this season”, Nickle said when asked if he missed being a part of the soccer team. This season, Jacob decided to take a break from soccer and do other activities like working with his band.
The crowd was cheering the team on as they played hard. The players had good communication on the field and their passes were controlled. It was a great game to start the season with. This game set the target of the rest of the games this season. Congratulations to all the soccer players for a well earned victory.
TCP Soccer’s First Away Game Ends in a Tie
Danielle Oquist
On March 30th, TCP’s Soccer Team traveled to Oak Creek Academy and, even with no substitutes, they still managed to have an ending score of 3-3. This was the closest game yet of the season and Coach Turner had mixed feelings about the game. Gavan Turner scored the first goal and Will Bodine scored the other two.
“I’m glad that we were able to hold them at a tie, but I still expected the team to do better. We should have beaten them even with no substitutions.” He commented afterwards.
The team was also a little disappointed, but happy to have the re-match opportunity. “I’m looking forward to playing the re-match coming up and hope to do better” says Catie Hoekstra, a freshmen starter.
So far the Soccer team is undefeated and hopes to keep it up. “The team is great this season and hopefully the training and teamwork we build up this season will help with next year.” Coach Turner also hopes that more people will support the team at games, so come out and cheer on your Panthers!
Panther Butts Heads with American Heritage Patriot
by Colten Lindauer
On, Thursday, April 1st, TCP soccer beat American Heritage Academy 6-2 on our home field. Our Panthers took 19 shots on goal, and out of those shots 4 went in by Gavan Turner, 1 by Catie Hoekstra, and 1 by Will Bodine. AHA took 25 shots on goal, and managed to succeed with 2.
Tempers and physicality rose within the game following a minor concussion suffered by a team member from AHA suffered after TCP defender Wade Kay collided with her.
The competitiveness of the game increased until the last twenty minutes of the game, when TCP had realized they had the game pretty much wrapped up. After the game, AHA’s head coach had no hard feelings toward Wade or our school for the injury of his player, stating that “he (Wade) was only trying to do his job”, as a player on the field. Panther head soccer coach, Jim Turner, felt that the referee’s calls were slightly one sided towards the other team, but he was “happy with the outcome of the game”.

Rowers Bring home Gold and Silver from Salt Lake
by Jessica Holevar
May 15, 2010, Tri-City College Prep rowers attended the Brine Shrimp Regatta in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was successful and rewarding.
It was a 3 day trip, two days of driving, and one of competing. The racing is the exciting part, but most enjoy the social aspect of long van rides as well, “You know you have good friends if you can ride in a van for 12 hours with them, and survive,” said Junior rower Trevor Larson. [more]

All Good Things Must Come to be Better
by Brett Jones
At Tri city Prep, there has been a tradition of playing 3 v.3 person basketball tournament as well as a flag football game on the last day of school. This was a crazy system of trying to get ten or more basketball games in two hours, but then everyone who played basketball was so exhausted the football game is a joke. However, because something is tradition doesn’t always make it Ok. Change is now on the horizon. [more] |
