All Good Things Must Come to be Better

by Brett Jones
At Tri city Prep, there has been a tradition of playing 3 v.3 person basketball tournament as well as a flag football game on the last day of school. This was a crazy system of trying to get ten or more basketball games in two hours, but then everyone who played basketball was so exhausted the football game is a joke. However, because something is tradition doesn’t always make it Ok. Change is now on the horizon.
Mr. Wamsley and I decided to reconstruct the entire way the basketball tournament is formatted. Now a strict eight team bracket with the entire first round or four games is to be played on Wednesday, May 26th. This is a change from the previous setup of all the games on the last Thursday of school. The second round and championship will then follow on Thursday morning. The games played on the 26th will start as soon as school ends. Thursday games start promptly at 8:00 am.
In the past the flag football game was completely irrelevant in the eyes of so many people. Some would throw on a flag for ten to fifteen minutes, play a couple of snaps, then leave. Now structure has finally been introduced to the lightly supported event. Thanks to Mr. Burgess and Mr. Batzli, who have so graciously volunteered their time to serve as coaches for the two eight person teams, we can now run for practices. Both teams will be able to use the field twice before the game, and practices will be held on May 11, 13th, 17th, and 20th. The game will be 28 minutes of regulation, composed of seven minute quarters. Hopefully with these changes to both events, we can provide the best last day of school sporting experience.
