Glee Clubbers Strive, Singin’ “Don’t Stop, Believin’!”
By Sarah Cramer
Students have the ability to create a club at Tri City, but the process takes more than most students would expect. For example, Ryan Deckard, Blake Embree, Katie Stanfill, and Emily Stanfill began a Glee Club at TCP.
“We needed to write a constitution explaining our rules and regulations, meet with various teachers numerous amounts of times, and get the Glee Club approved by Tri-M. I feel like the process went slow,” says freshman Ryan Deckard.
According to Dr. Halvorson, constitutions explain how clubs will operate, the purpose of club, how the club will function financially, the criteria for membership, and how members will be selected. “You learn a lot in the process of creating a club,” she says.
“Glee Club is an assortment of singing and interpretive dance, and we wanted to start it to open up new varieties in musical performance within the school,” Deckard says. Freshman Blake Embree adds that Glee Club is a way to relax and simply have fun. “Commitment and responsibility are also included, but Glee Club can let students express themselves away from most of the pressures of school,” Embree says.
Ian Glow and Peter Cowles also attempted to begin a club, but ran out of time due to the difficult requirements. Writing the constitution, Cowles said, was the main reason that they halted the creation of the Ski Club. They hope to have Ski Club up and running next year.
If you’re interested in beginning a club at Tri City, be prepared for a lot of preparation and work. Deckard says, “I think starting a club takes a lot of responsibility and commitment, and especially patience.” |
