Slammin Softball Steps Up to the Plate
by Blair Willette
On May 10, TCP had its first softball game. TCP plays with an organization called Prescott Girls Softball Association (PGSA). Heritage Park Ball Field is where the games at played. They played against Coach Chavez’s team (the purple color team). At 5:30, the first game of the season started.
TCP was the visiting team. So, TCP was first up to bat. The final score was 9-5. Blair Willette even caught a pop fly and threw it to Summer Reynolds at second making a rapid double play. The team stayed sharp and alert during their plays. They made some mistakes but overall did well and played like a strong team.
Team Captain Britton Hammit said, “I think that our team did amazing. We all work well together. I think the best part about our team is that we know the reason we’re there is to have fun. So there is no pressure, just time to play an amazing sport!”
On the next day, May 11, TCP had a rematch with the purple team. It was on the same field but at 7:30 instead. TCP was the home team this time. This game, TCP didn’t do as well. The final score was 5-1. TCP lost. However, they kept up the team spirit. The umpire was also calling some pitches balls, when they were strikes and vice versa. Still, the umpire’s word is final and both teams did a good job at trying to accept the umpire’s call. Now the team was disappointed but they encouraged themselves to do better at the next game.
Hammit said, “I think that as a team we need to learn the game better and work on some of our base running but I didn’t think we played badly.”
TCP team still has many more games ahead of them and many more victories. |
