Tri-City Prep Takes on the AIMS and Exceeds

By Peter Cowles

On Wednesday and Thursday April 7th and 8th Tri-City Prep students will take the Math and Science AIMS.  On Wednesday the Math AIMS were taken by sophomores and also Juniors or Seniors that didn’t exceed on the AIMS. State Standards require that you retake the AIMS until you pass them.  However, Tri-City Prep asks that you take them until you exceed, which, last year everyone actually did. The reward for exceeding is worth the effort because students who exceeded get to take the day off.
Mrs. Norris, the vice principal said that “Last year 39 people had exceeded the AIMS and this year the number has risen to 49. Each year Tri-City Prep students do better than the previous year.”
The Science AIMS were taken on Thursday by anyone who is currently in Biology. The Science AIMS is a new addition to the AIMS family.  Arizona, after several years of only having Writing, Math, and Reading for AIMS, decided that to accurately judge the level that students were at other subjects should be tested.
So far among students at Tri-City Prep the response to the new test is fairly positive. While students don’t necessary like taking the test, they do think that overall it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
