Math Students Take 1st at ERAU Math Competition

By Jessica Holevar

Thursday, January 28, 2010, 30 math students from Tri-City College Prep attended the Yavapai County mathematics contest. The day started off with a team competition where students were put in groups of three or four and given 30 minutes to complete the 10 problem packets.
There was then the individual competition which lasted 75 minutes, and contained 60 problems. Students were split into different levels (1-4) and competed against other students from their level.
Later, there was a college bowl where the top team from each school competed head to head against the other top teams. In this competition the team The Dance Biscuits including; Zachary Huber, Rachel Underwood, Stephen Underwood, and Jeannie Wood represented Tri-City. After competing in several rounds they took 3rd place.
Tri-City students also received many other awards that day. For the research project they took 2nd place, but there were also individual awards received. For level 2 students Will Bodine took 4th, Anna Flurry took 3rd, and Ian Glow took 2nd. In level 3 competition Jessica Holevar took 3rd and Max Vankirk got 2nd. Max also tied for 7th place overall.
As a school Tri-City College Prep placed 1st in both level 2 and level 3. As an overall school they placed 1st! Everyone did an amazing job, and it was a successful competition!
