Winter Formal a Hit
By Liz Earl

On Friday, January 8th, about a hundred TCP students of all four ages stepped out to the annual winter dance.
“It’s great,” said Shelby McCaslin, a junior. “I really like the playlist.”
Hosted at Stoneridge Golf Club, the winter formal this year was highly attended. Everyone looked wonderful- a wide array of dress colors and corsages were matched with suits and boutonnieres. This year was similar to previous ones in a lot of ways- there were refreshments and drinks, tables to sit at, and lots of dancing and good music.
However, there were also some differences. This year, there was no food served. In the past, there has always been a plated dinner served before the dance. The Formal committee decided to go with a dessert bar instead. But it was still a hit.
At the climax of the night, the royalty was announced. The freshmen Duke and Duchess, Ryan Deckard and Rachel Winters, were announced first, to much cheering and applause. The sophomore Lord and Lady, Weston Parmalee and Sharon Wyatt, were announced next, followed by the junior Prince and Princess, Colten Lindauer and Mandy Montgomery.
Then, the winter formal King and Queen were announced. Stephen Underwood, the King, and Jeannie Wood, the Queen, were greatly surprised as their names were called up for the royalty. After all of the couples were crowned, they had their dance, and then left to take their pictures.
“I’m happy that the beautiful people won,” said Stephen Underwood with a huge grin at the photos. “I really didn’t expect any of these people, but I am happy with the results.”
The dance went from seven until eleven, and students were there until the very end. Altogether, there were good feelings about the whole event. However, there were different views about the changes. Deanna D’Alessandro said, “I was glad that we had more time to dance.”
However, there were different views. “I sort of liked the old way,” said Evelyn Ballard. “It breaks up a really long dance.”
Everyone has individual opinions, but altogether the dance went over well. We are looking forward to what next year brings for winter formal.
